From the President
Hello all. 2009 is just flying by - it only seems like yesterday that I was penning the introduction to Issue 1! I wanted to start off by congratulating all the prize and scholarship winners listed in this issue. Each is the result of hard work and individual excellence - qualities I think we all admire. Well done all.

The Australian internet content filtering scheme
The Australian internet content filtering scheme has recently been a hotly debated topic. SIT’s Associate Professor Bjorn Landfeldt has concerns about the government’s response to the report and what mandatory internet content filtering will mean to Australians.

2009 AUC Scholarships
School of IT honours and postgraduate students have been awarded scholarships by the Apple University Consortium.

To encourage academic excellence, each semester the School of IT recognises the highest achieving student in each postgraduate coursework unit of study.

Science meets Parliament
Dr. James Curran from the School of Information Technologies was one of two representatives of the Computer Research and Education (CORE) group at “Science meets Parliament” (SmP).

2009 National Computer Science School
The School of IT hosted 80 senior high school students and 6 teachers for the 14th National Computer Science School (NCSS) in January, 2009. NCSS ran for 10 days with the generous support of our major sponsors, NICTA, with significant contributions from the Capital Markets CRC, Atlassian, Accenture, Google, Macquarie Group, the Smart Services CRC, and the Apple University Consortium (AUC).
