Mission Statement
To develop adaptive interactive general purpose software for deploying alternative linguistic theories in the analysis of text.
Goal of ARC Proposal
- To create prototype software
- To perform analysis of text using 3 different linguistic theories:
- Metamodel
- Systemic Functional Grammar
- RST
- Data Analysis
- Domestic Violence Interviews
- VELM

Appraise Data Analysis: appraise linguistic theories in relation to Data Analysis
Linguistic Theory: advise on linguistic theories to be implemented
Computational Linguistics: the linguistic structures suited to computational identification
System Design: designing the structure of the computational system
System Development: writing and debugging the program code for the working system
Data Analysis/Interpretation: make the meaningful interpretation of the analysed text
Data Preparation: performing mark-up of the text chosen for analysis
Immediate Project Work
- Jon, Stephen, Hong - Identify XML editor for data preparation
- Jim, Christian - Identify shallow SFG structures for markup and design tagset
- Jon, Stephen, Hong - ditto for Metamodel
- Jon - Complete Domestic Violence interview summaries
People's Activity: 1999 - early 2000
- Jim and Christian
- Write linguistic background to justify generic software
- Specify its expected performance achievements
- Jon and Steve
- Design architecture of
Knowledge representation
Computational processes
Text storage and representation
- Everyone
-Project Budget and Specification
-What help do you want for doing what you want done and how much will you pay for it.
